Annika Rixen

Annika Rixen (born in Solingen, lives in Melzow, Brandenburg) builds installations out of site-specific, large-format cyanotype prints on textile.

Material comes from her immediate surroundings - it might be the compost heap outside her house, tools from an abandoned car repair shop nearby, or spontaneous vegetation on the edges of a landscaped park she visits. She is particularly interested in how ruderal plants ("weeds") connect to contemporary ideas of nature and landscape. Annika Rixen received her BfA from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECUAD), Vancouver, Canada, and her MA from the University of the Arts (UDK), Berlin.
