Oro för Liv Finissage

Sep26

A warm welcome to the closing of the temporary installation “Oro för Liv” at the land art sculpture LIV no. 8 in Algutsrum on Öland.

A warm welcome to the closing of the temporary installation Oro för Liv at the land art sculpture LIV no. 8 in Algutsrum on Öland.

The word LIV (“LIFE”), an existing artwork in the landscape consisting of raised letters formed from earth, has been partially covered with yellow recycled silage plastic. The material is a common sight in the fields of Öland. It becomes a covering with a double meaning: it both protects and suffocates the vegetation beneath it. Anne Hamrin Simonsson explores how life can be protected from threats, both from within and from outside.

The yellow colour also symbolises support for the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund.

At 2:00 pm, the artist will give a short presentation at the installation. Afterwards, we will continue to Mittlandsgården, where Liv Nilsson Stutz, Professor of Archaeology at Linnaeus University, will give a lecture entitled “Why Do We Humans Need Rituals?”
