On May 29 at 5:00 PM, the Småland Triennial 2026 will be inaugurated with a festive opening evening at Österängens Konsthall. The evening marks the start of this year's triennial and brings together artists, audiences and partners around the theme of Worry – art, preparedness, resistance.
The inauguration takes place in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition Berätta om oron och skönheten (Telling about Worry and Beauty) by Ingrid Gustafsson and Hedda Hultman, which will be on display at Österängens konsthall between May 29 and August 30, 2026. In their respective practices, the artists work with sculptural processes where materials such as wood, textile, video and drawing interact in an investigation of the state of everyday life – where worry, sadness, beauty and the seemingly insignificant are allowed to take shape. Through intuitive and often bodily working methods, spatial stories are created where the objects relate to each other in groups and fragments, and where the process is characterized by both control and surprise.
During the opening evening, food and drinks will be served, and the musical setting is provided by a thunderous folk music festival band called Tåget. On violins, vocals, cello, cittern & percussion: Hanna Schön, Åsa Thorsén Mogenssen, Frida Hedenberg, Maria Wallinder, Anders Löfberg, Niclas Hell, Anna Lindblad, Albin Bryntesson and Isa Hammarsten.
The event is open to the public and has free admission.
