Furniture manufacturing with MADAM

MADAM Carpentry and Restoration celebrates the wood that industry rejects and finds beauty in stains, holes and deformities. In 2022, they were artists in residence at Linnaeus University while working on the project Thank You Forest! 2.0, in collaboration with Virserums konsthall and Lära om arkivet.

Through knowledge about wood and questioning norms, MADAM sheds light on industrialized wood and shows a system that creates the majority's perception of wood and what is natural. In their work, they create beautiful furniture from wood that the standard has not approved – wood that neither suited the machines of industrialism nor the visual norms. Read more about MADAM's work in Garland Magazine, with text by Christina Zetterlund, senior lecturer at the Department of Design.
