Johanna Billing was born in Jönköping in 1973, studied at Konstfack and lives and works in Stockholm. Her conceptually oriented video art dwells on the interaction between the individual and society, the public and the private, and between staging and improvisation.
Questions about learning, time and social investigative processes are recurring themes and the films often involve music, which through dialogue and collaboration becomes a medium for exchange, memory and reconstruction. She has participated in many international exhibitions, such as Documenta, the Venice Biennale and the Istanbul Biennale, and has exhibited individually at institutions such as the Moderna Museet and P.S. 1 in New York.
