Emelie Carlén is an artist based in Stockholm and, to some extent, on Öland, through her part-time role as course coordinator for Art School II at Öland Folk High School. Her main body of work takes the form of film and sculptural installations that explore the translations between materials and historical narratives. Her research-based work is grounded in viewing history as a fluid system of values that travels through time and temporary structures. Between the material and the immaterial, systems are deconstructed and transformed into alternative narratives.
Carlén studied fine art at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Stockholm University.
