Åke P. Graae (b. 1951) lives and works in Markaryd municipality and has been active as an artist for more than five decades. His artistic work includes painting, sculpture in wood, concrete, steel, graphics in the form of wood and linoleum cuts and various mixed media. All are characterized by a strong belief in the value of man. For a long time he has also been committed to peace issues, and humanism is a common thread throughout his production. Regardless of the material or technique, a consistent interest in man's relationship to his surroundings – social, political and existential – recurs.
Through a long and multifaceted artistic career, Graae has developed a personal visual language where the poetic and the socially committed meet. In this exhibition, these two sides emerge with particular clarity. Here, art does not become an escape from the world, but a way of meeting it.
