Kläppinge 1:18
On the farm (Kläppinge 1:18), more precisely in the cottage “UNDANTAGET”, the sisters Lydia and Selma lived their entire lives. Selma’s son, Gustav Olsson, became the last to run the small farm on the farm. He was a devoted animal lover who made a living by breeding horses and is known as the last person on Öland to work with oxen.
“Kläppinge 1:18” (the farm name) is today also the name of the artistic project that Johanna Karlin runs in dialogue with the farm – a place in constant change between decay and life. Here she investigates the encounters between people, animals, nature and architecture. The project “irregularly” activates different parts of the farm, but has also been presented in institutional contexts such as the Kalmar Art Museum and the Academy of Fine Arts, to name a few places.
The project also includes the cottage UNDANTAGET, where exhibition activities have been conducted since 2016.
This summer, Karlin herself is using the outside of the cottage for a temporary installation; a work that is being carried out within the framework of the project Kläppinge 1:18 and which takes its starting point from Gustav Olsson's legacy.
For the Småland Triennale 2026, the cottage Undantaget (Karlin) and the sculpture LIV no 8 (Anne Hamrin Simonsson) are each an Art Site.
The projects are run by us as individual artists and are carried out independently at our respective locations, united by a common exchange about process and method, as in previous projects within the Småland Triennale.
