About
Smålandstriennalen is a recurring art event held every three years across Småland and Öland, organized by Konstfrämjandet Småland.
The triennial weaves together local initiatives, institutions, and artistic practices across the vast region of Småland and Öland. For the 2026 edition, over thirty co-organizers are already confirmed — establishing the triennial as a dynamic, decentralized platform for contemporary art and cultural discourse.
The 2026 theme, “Worry – Art, Preparedness, Resistance,” takes its point of departure in the fundamental uncertainty that defines our time: war, climate crisis, and technological upheaval create a condition of both vulnerability and resolve. Here, worry is not understood as something to be cured, but as an existential response to what we care about — a force that can be as mobilizing as it is paralyzing. Art becomes a space for exploring this ambivalence, where the absurd and the poetic, the collective and the personal, converge, and where preparedness is interpreted not as fear, but as a creative strategy for the future. By allowing the works to meet audiences everywhere from forests to urban settings, the triennial aims to create opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and shared orientation amid uncertainty — turning worry from a mere symptom into a resource for resistance, solidarity, and meaning.
