Petra Lindholm

Petra Lindholm (b. 1973, Karis, Finland) lives and works outside Älmhult. She creates video and textile artworks that have a slow, almost musical tempo. Color, tone and rhythm are woven together into poetic investigations of time, memory and change. Through her images, she tests the boundary between the material and the fleeting – how a thought or a light can take physical form.

Lindholm’s method is meditative. She approaches her motifs as one approaches a memory: with a quiet contemplation, where every nuance and transition holds an emotional shift. The medium of each work in some way contains that of the others; in the textile works, the fabric becomes an extension of the film – a way of holding on to the image when it would otherwise have dissolved. The textile works are also often accompanied by accompanying sounds.

She is educated at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts (1996–2001) and is active in Pjätteryd outside Älmhult, where nature's slow rhythms and recurring patterns often become an undercurrent in her art.
